A young man went missing while swimming at Hawkesbay beach on the third day of Eidul Azha as citizens continued to go to seaside despite the ban imposed by the commissioner.
Volunteers of the Edhi Foundation and lifeguards initiated a rescue operation but they were unable to find the youth, identified as 22-year-old Shaheer, son of Aftab, alive or dead. The rescue workers said he had certainly drowned.
Shaheer had come from the Liaquatabad area to have a picnic with his friends at the beach. According to the Edhi Foundation’s spokesperson, three more persons, including a woman, were rescued while they were about to drown in the sea during the Eid days.
Meanwhile, in the action against those violating the ban on swimming, the Mauripur police arrested nine persons. The Sindh government has enforced the Section 144 prohibiting swimming at the beaches.
