14 bodies found across Karachi in single day

At least 14 bodies were found across Karachi on Sunday. An Edhi Foundation official said that most of the bodies were of drug addicts who had died due to severe heat while being under the effect of narcotics.

In Pak Colony's Lashari neighborhood near the KMC Ground, three bodies of suspected drug addicts were found. They appeared to be between 25 and 45 years old. Police shifted the bodies to the Civil Hospital for legal proceedings.

In the Artillery Maidan area near the Karachi Press Club, the body of an unidentified man who appeared to be in his 50s was found on a pavement and transferred to the Civil Hospital.

The identity of the deceased and his cause of death are yet to be ascertained. In the Jamshed Quarters area near Jahangir Road, an unidentified man, who appeared to be in his 40s, was found dead on a pavement. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital.

In the Pak Colony area near Kala School in Old Golimar, a man, who appeared to be 60 years old, was found dead on a footpath and was taken to the Civil Hospital. In Korangi Industrial Area near Godam Chowrangi, the body of an unidentified man, who appeared to be in his 30s, was found on a footpath and shited to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

A teenager was found dead in New Karachi Industrial Area near Khamiso Goth Cemetery Gate. In Orangi Town Sector 15, the body of an unidentified man, who seemed to be around 45 years old, was found and transferred to the police station.

In the Khayaban-e-Sehar Commercial area in Defence Phase VII, the body of an unidentified man, who appeared to be around 40 years old, was found and taken to the police station. In Landhi, the body of an unidentified man seemingly in his 30s was found.

In the Baghdadi area of Lyari, newborn was found dead in a garbage dump. Police handed over the body to a welfare organisation for burial. In Orangi Town’s Dana Nagar area, a decomposed body was found in a house.

On Sunday night, a two-day-old decomposed body was found in a house in Mehmoodabad No 1. It was identified to be that of 29-year-old Mehran. The body was shifted to Jinnah hospital.

In a house located in the Shanti Nagar area within the limits of the Aziz Bhatti police station, a three-to-four-day-old body of 60-year-old Muhammad Ayub was found. It was shifted to Jinnah hospital. Police said the cause of death had not been ascertained yet. Later, all the bodies were shifted to morgues.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Edhi Foundation, Azeem Khan, told The News that most of the bodies found on Sunday were those of drug addicts. He said that usually, two to four bodies of drug addicts were found in different areas of Karachi on a daily basis. However, due to the increasing temperatures and rising number of drug addicts, the number of deaths had also been increasing, he added. He said the more the drug addicts continued to consume narcotics in the extremely hot weather, the more the risk of death would be.
