Imran moves SC for early hearing of plea against disqualification

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder chairman Imran Khan has filed petition in the Supreme Court seeking early hearing of his appeal against his disqualification.

Barrister Ali Zafar, counsel for Imran, filed the petition on Monday. The petition said that Imran Khan was former prime minister and founder of the largest political party of the country. Proceedings is under way to remove the petitioner as head of the party after having been deseated by Election Commission of Pakistan (EC)).

The petition further said that cases were pending in Islamabad and Lahore High courts against the ECP orders. The proceedings in high courts were not moving ahead for the case was pending in the apex court.

The petition took the plea that due to these cases the PTI founder chairman was not being elected as member of assembly. The petitioner cannot contest by-polls due to pending appeal plea.

The petition prayed the court to fix appeal plea of Imran Khan against his disqualification for hearing early. It is pertinent to mention here Imran had filed appeal plea against his disqualification in the Supreme Court on January 10, 2024.
