Pakistan’s major political leaders must reform their own individual parties. Almost all major political parties are dominated either by an individual or a family. The net result of this outdated and archaic system is that there is an acute dearth of merit in the choice of the team at the helm. Such political parties are hostage to dictates and the ambitions of few, totally oblivious of ground realities.
There is no place in a democracy, for such systems and especially for cult-like groups who look up to their party leader as a messiah who cannot be questioned or held accountable. Power corrupts and absolute power in the hands of few, is a recipe for fascism to emerge. It is time our major political parties realize the need to let fresh blood take charge.
