LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the cabinet and Cabinet Committee on Law and Order to monitor security arrangements for Ashura.
On her special orders, provincial ministers visited different divisions and districts across Punjab to monitor security arrangements on Ashura.
She directed law enforcement agencies to make foolproof security arrangements in this regard. She added, “No effort should be spared to maintain a peaceful atmosphere in every city. Law enforcement agencies should be fully active and diligent. Monitoring of the security personnel deployed at Imambargahs, Majalis, and procession routes is also indispensable.” The chief minister emphasised, “A close watch should be kept on mischievous elements. All resources should be used to ensure law and order in the province.” She also directed the authorities concerned to extend sufficient support to ‘Sabils’ and ‘Langar’ for the mourners.
On the CM’s directions, ‘Sabils’ and ‘Langar’ for the mourners and people participating in the processions on Ashura have been arranged on a large scale in various districts of Punjab, including Lahore. The district administration, in collaboration with other agencies, completed these arrangements late Monday night.
The CM was apprised, “Worshippers and participants in the processions are being served with cold water, drinks, and food packets.” She was briefed, “Special arrangements have been made to serve women, the elderly, and children participating in the processions.” The chief minister was further briefed, “Ambulances and medical personnel are also in the field to take care of the mourners.”
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz met MPA Saeed Akbar Khan Nawani and discussed development projects and public issues, as well as suggestions and recommendations to solve public problems.
