KARACHI: Pakistan Shaheens put themselves in a commanding position on the opening day of the first four-day match against Bangladesh A, finishing at a strong 375/2 after 79 overs.
Opener Mohammad Huraira stole the show with a magnificent unbeaten knock of 161 runs. His patient innings, compiled off 203 deliveries, included 18 boundaries and a solitary six. Huraira found valuable support from his fellow openers Sahibzada Farhan (66) and Umar Amin (54), who provided a solid foundation with a 134-run partnership.
Bangladesh A, who elected to bowl first, might have rued their decision as the Pakistan Shaheens batsmen dominated throughout the day. Ripon Mondol was the lone bright spark for the Bangladeshi bowling attack, claiming both wickets to fall. He dismissed Farhan in the 27th over and later removed Amin in the 52nd.
However, Huraira remained unfazed. He reached his ninth first-class century in style, bringing it up off just 129 balls in the 44th over. Following Amin's dismissal, Kamran Ghulam joined Huraira in the middle, and the pair stitched together an unbeaten 123-run partnership to further consolidate Pakistan Shaheens' position. Ghulam played a crucial supporting role, finishing unbeaten on 74 with 11 boundaries.
Scores in brief Bangladesh ‘A’ won the toss and elected to bowl first Pakistan Shaheens 375-2, 79 overs (Mohammad Huraira 161 not out, Kamran Ghulam 74 not out, Sahibzada Farhan 66, Umar Amin 54; Ripon Mondol 2-59).
