LAHORE:Punjab Health Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Disaster Management Khawaja Salman Rafique announced on Friday that the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) had established flood relief camps in anticipation of potential flooding.
The announcement was made during his visit to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority Head Office here. He highlighted the risk of flooding due to recent rains in the Koh-e-Sulaiman mountains, which could lead to rising water levels in rivers and mountain streams.
He assured the general public that the situation is being closely monitored around the clock in the Epidemic and District Control Rooms, and that prompt measures would be taken to protect lives.
He also urged the general public to take necessary precautions during the rainy season. During his visit, he reviewed various schemes aimed at preventing river erosion. He also toured the Provincial Disaster Management Authority control room to assess the rain situation across the province.
Provincial Disaster Management Authority Director General, Irfan Ali Kathia, provided a comprehensive briefing on the current weather conditions and the safety measures in place. The meeting also included a detailed review of the water levels in Punjab’s rivers, dams, and barrages, all of which are currently reported to be normal.
The situation of rivers in Dera Ghazi Khan was also thoroughly discussed. Member of the Punjab Assembly, Ghulam Abbas Gormani, also attended the meeting.
UVAS lab facilities reviewed
Provincial Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani along with Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab M Masoud Anwar visited University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Ravi Campus Pattoki where they met Vice Chancellor Meritorious Prof Dr M Younus on Friday.
The minister reviewed UVAS vaccine production and lab facilities, disease diagnosis and treatment services for the welfare of animals to save their life from different diseases. Ashiq Kirmani visited various sections of Prof Dr M Akram Educational Complex, including Auditorium and Students' Facilitation Centre.
They also visited different departments of Ravi Campus including Central Laboratory Complex (CLC), Higher Education Commission Smart Classrooms, Animal Clinics and Training Centre for Biologic Production (TCBP).
Meanwhile, Provincial Minister for Agriculture and Livestock also chaired a detailed meeting on this occasion. He also planted a sapling for the promotion of greenery at A-Block of Ravi Campus.
