Global warming is already having a significant effect on the environment: glaciers and ice sheets are retreating, lake and river ice is melting earlier, animal and plant ranges are shifting, and trees and plants are blooming earlier. There has also been a rise in extreme weather events and sea levels are rising due to the melting polar ice caps.
If we want to counter global warming, we need to put laws and guidelines into effect to control greenhouse gas emissions and encourage environmentally friendly behaviour among people.
