Two books on Ghalib’s poetry launched

The Idara-e-Yadgar-e-Ghalib has recently published two books — Ahwal-e-Ghalib and Muhmilat-e-Ghalb — after compiling essays on Ghalib’s poetry that were previously published by the organisation in its magazine titled Ghalib.

Of the two books, Ahwal-e-Ghalib contains articles on different aspects of Ghalib’s times and poetry. The critics whose articles have found way in the book include some prominent writers like Dr Aftab Ahmed Khan, Shanul Haq Haqqee, Dr Gyan Chand and Dr Hanif Fauq.

The other book, Muhmilat-e-Ghalib, has articles that were first written in 1920s and later after a critic, Muhammad Abdul Malik, had proposed removing ‘meaningless’ verses from Diwan-e-Ghalib. The proposal triggered a debate as it instigated Mirza Yas Yagana, a known enemy of Ghalib, to write pieces denouncing Ghalib and others to write in Ghalib’s defence.
