ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet has approved the privatization of 13 institutions of Power Division. According to government sources, 9 of the total 11 government electricity distribution companies are included in the privatization list.
Among the government entities which have been approved for privatization are Faisalabad Electric Supply Company, Gujranwala Electric Power Company, Hyderabad Electric Supply Company, Multan Electric Power Company, Peshawar Electric Supply Company, Sukkur Electric Power Company and Hazara Electric Supply Company. Quetta Electric and Tribal Electric Supply Companies are not included in the privatization list.
The federal cabinet has also approved the inclusion of 4 state-owned power generation companies (Gencos) in the privatization list. These companies include Jamshoro Power Company Limited (Genco One), Central Power Generation Company Limited (Genco Two), Northern Power Generation Company Limited (Genco Three) and Lakhra Power Generation Company Limited (Genco Four).
According to sources, the federal cabinet has approved the declaration of 6 institutions of Power Division as institutions of national importance. Power Holding Limited, CPPA, Genco Holding Company Limited, National Power Parks Management Company Limited, Power Planning and Monitoring Company Limited and Power Information Technology Company Limited have been declared as institutions of national importance.
The federal cabinet has approved the reorganization of 4 institutions of Power Division. Quetta Electric Supply Company and Tribal Areas Electric Supply Company will be reorganized.
The National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) and NESPAK will be restructured. The National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NICA) and the Civil Power and Infrastructure Board (PPIB) were declared statutory bodies.
