LAHORE: Light scattered rain was recorded in various City localities here on Sunday while Met office predicted similar weather conditions during the next 24 hours.
Met officials warned that torrential rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams of hilly areas of DG Khan, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Loralai, Sibbi, Harnai, Kohlu, Dera Bugti, Jhal Magsi, Nasirabad, Jaffarabad, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Kech, Panjgur, Jacobabad, Qamber Shahdad Kot, Larkana, Dadu, Jamshoro, Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Jhelum, Gujrat and Kashmir.
They warned that heavy downpour may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Shikarpur and Khairpur during while landslides may cause roads closure at the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan during the wet period. They said strong monsoon currents were continuously penetrating from Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal in most parts of the country while a trough of westerly wave was also affecting northern parts of the country.
Met officials predicted that more rain-windstorm/thundershower was expected in Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, Punjab, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. However, heavy falls were likely in northeastern/ southern Balochistan, Karachi including Sindh, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, North East/South Punjab and Kashmir.
Rainfall was recorded at several cities across the country. Sunday’s maximum temperature was recorded at Nokkundi and Bunji where mercury reached 41°C while in Lahore it was 34.8°C and minimum was 27.3°C.
