ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has included former energy minister of caretaker cabinet Muhammad Ali in his team.
The prime minister has appointed Muhammad Ali as his special assistant and his status will be equal to the Minister of State.
The prime minister has made this appointment under Rule 4(6) of the Rules of Business, 1973. The Cabinet Division has issued formal notification of his appointment. Muhammad Ali is the founder of some well-known companies in Pakistan, including Inbox Business Technologies, Converge Technologies, Alexor Securities and Al Shaheer Corporation. He has worked in the US, Canada and also worked and established companies in UAE.
He has also served in leading Pakistani corporates, stock exchange, credit rating agency, Tax Advisory Group of Federal Board of Revenue and Economic Coordination Committee of Cabinet Government of Pakistan.
From 2011 to 2013, Muhammad Ali was the chairman of the SECP where he successfully reshaped Pakistan’s capital market and corporate governance landscape by ensuring the successful passage and implementation of various laws through Parliament.
In 2019, the government of Pakistan appointed Muhammad Ali to chair a committee to conduct a detailed audit of Pakistan’s power sector, which led to the renegotiation of power purchase agreements between the government and independent power producers.
Muhammad Ali has done MBA from IBA University Karachi, LLM from the University of Toronto and a mid-career MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
