This letter refers to the article ‘When education meets land grab’ (August 2, 2024) by Dr Ayesha Razzaque. As per the article, “The credit for hurriedly seizing land and not even paying a pittance that is the compensation and rushing to build universities on those lands without first ensuring they own the land fair-and-square goes to successive KP governments”.
When a property tycoon grabs land in an illegal manner it is wrong. But when a provincial government does it, it is totally unacceptable. There are multiple examples where the original landowners have not been compensated as per the current market rates. It is the duty of the government to ensure fair and timely compensation in such cases.
