In Karachi, many private transport vehicles often come to a stop in the middle of busy roads to pick up or drop off passengers. This is against traffic rules and can cause accidents and traffic jams. Korangi Road, University Road, Mehmoodabad Road, and Rashid Minhas Road are among the major thoroughfares that suffer from this problem. Once the vehicle comes to stop, it blocks up a whole lane, reducing road capacity and forcing other drivers to slow down. These sudden stops in the middle of the road also disrupt the visibility of passing drivers, making it difficult for them to anticipate and react to the situation.
They must often brake suddenly, increasing the risk of rear end collisions. This way of doing things is also a risk to the passengers of private buses and coaches too. The concerned authorities must take stern steps and implement immediate measures to control this problem and make private transporters stop their vehicles in designated areas or bus stops only.
