LAHORE:Punjab Police has accelerated a crackdown on drugs trade in all districts of the province. Punjab Police spokesperson said that in one day, 400 raids were conducted on the hideouts of drug dealers across the province, including Lahore.
Around 185 accused involved in nefarious business of drugs were arrested, 184 cases were registered, while 131kg charas, 2kg heroin, 1kg Ice, 1,418 litre liquor were recovered from the possession of the accused. Spokesperson said that during the special campaign that started on February 26, 42,067 raids were conducted by police teams on the hideouts of drug dealers across Punjab.
Around 20,064 accused involved in drug trafficking were arrested and 19,534 cases were registered. Around 11,972kg charas, 66kg ice, 232kg heroin, 294kg opium, more than 1,726,000 litre liquor were also recovered from the possession of the accused. IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar directed the RPOs, DPOs to speed up intelligence-based operations against drug dealers and smugglers.
Two arrested over fraud
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday arrested two individuals involved in human smuggling and visa fraud here from the provincial capital.
According to a spokesman for the agency, a crackdown on human traffickers was intensified, resulting in the arrest of two suspects, identified as Sarfraz and Faizur Rahman.In the first raid, Sarfraz was apprehended on Raiwind Road. He had been deceiving citizens by promising overseas employment and extorting millions of rupees. During the raid, five passports were recovered from him, but Sarfraz failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for their possession.
In a another operation, Faizur Rahman was arrested outside the Passport Office in Garden Town. He was fraudulently collecting money from citizens under the pretext of passport fees without holding a valid licence.
