LAHORE: The Independence Day events and competitions of Punjab Youth Affairs and Sports Department will start from August 11, Sunday (tomorrow).
DG Youth Affairs Punjab Pervez Iqbal on Friday said that the talented male and female youngsters of the province would be engaged in a number of interesting competitions and events including, Azadi Marathon, Family Fun Race, calligraphy, debate and speech competitions.
He said that Punjab Youth Affairs Department will organise Azadi Marathon and Family Fun Race on August 11 (Sunday) in which thousands of male and female athletes will exhibit their sprinting skills.
He said the registration booths have been established at Liberty Chowk and several other spots where the male and female athletes are being registered for the grand event.
“75 male and female officials will be there to conduct Azadi Marathon and Family Fun Race in an appropriate manner. The medical and water camps will be established at several points at the route of both races to cope with any medical emergency”.
He informed that the male and female students from various universities, athletes from different departments including Wapda, Army, Railways and Police and hundreds of athletes from Islamabad, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will also participate in this mega event.
About the route of the race, he said that the athletes of Azadi Marathon will kick off their sprint from Liberty Chowk at 7.00am and cover the 12-km distance via Hafeez Center, Zahoor Elahi Road, Main Market, KFC, Siddique Trade Centre, Zafar Ali Road, Canal Road, Punjab Cardiology, Shadman Underpass, Tollinton Market, Qurtaba Chowk, Shama Chowk, Ichhra Stop, Muslim Town, PCSIR, Gaddafi Stadium, Kalma Chowk, Centre Point and wrap up the race at Liberty Chowk.
Similarly, the participants of Family Fun Race will start their race from Liberty Chowk and cover the 3-km distance via Hafeez Center, Ch Zahoor Elahi Road, Main Market, KFC and finish their race at Siddique Trade Centre. Revealing details of remaining Independence Day events, Pervez Iqbal informed that calligraphy, debate and speech competitions will be organised at SBP E-Library in which hundreds of male and female students from dozens of colleges and universities will demonstrate their talent.
“The calligraphy competition will be organised at the topic of ‘Azad Pakistan’ on August 12 while the university level students will participate in debate competition at the topic of ‘The role of youth in the national development’ on August 13”.
He that Urdu and English speech competitions will be organised for school and college level students at the same venue on August 14. “The top three position holders of all competitions will be awarded cash prizes on this occasion,” he added.
