Hyderabad: Reacting to speculations that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Bashir Memon might be the new Sindh governor, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA and Sarwari Jamaat spiritual leader Makhdoom Jamil-uz-Zaman has stated that he does not consider Memon as his adversary, however, the PML-N leader was an opponent of PPP leader Faryal Talpur who is the sister of President Asif Ali Zardari.
Zaman had defeated Memon in the 2024 general elections from the Matiari National Assembly constituency. Speaking to the media after a meeting on rain preparations in Matiari, Zaman said Memon had Faryal arrested in the past, due to which there was opposition in the PPP to his candidature for the post of the Sindh governor.
However, the PPP MNA added that his party did not mind including its past opponents in its ranks as even now, some people were part of the Sindh cabinet who had criticised Benazir Bhutto in the past. Makhdoom Amar Haider, Haji Shahzad Memon, Imdad Chang, Shahzad Qaimkhani and Bashir Lako were also present on this occasion.
Earlier, the Sarwari Jamaat spiritual leader held a meeting with members of the District Council Miatari and officials of relevant institutions on rainwater drainage. The MNA expressed dissatisfaction with the officials concerned for not ensuring drainage of rainwater from different areas of the district. He said rainwater should be drained immediately and facilities should be provided to the people.
District Council Matiari Chairman Makhdoom Ahmed Zaman said teams had been formed to ensure drainage of rainwater in the district and action would be taken against officials who did not entertain complaints regarding drainage. It is pertinent to mention here that on Sunday, some media reports quoted Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar as saying that Memon was not being considered as the new Sindh governor.
