Seventy-seven years ago on August 14, 1947, we gained independence from the British and as well as a country for the Muslims of the Subcontinent. We celebrated Independence Day with lights, flying of Pakistani flags, special ceremonies and songs. However, August 14 should also be a day of introspection as we reflect on how the lives of 245 million Pakistanis can be made better. In all important international rankings, we are at the bottom of the list. And it seems we are at the top of the list in all the wrong things like corruption, having the worst passport, poor human rights, poor minority rights, poor women rights, ineffective justice system, etc. Seventy-seven years should have been enough time for us to reach our full potential.
