The LA Galaxy announced the signing Thursday of German star Marco Reus through the 2026 season. The 35-year-old former Borussia Dortmund midfielder was acquired using targeted allocation money. Financial terms for Reus were not announced.
The Galaxy will send $400,000 in general allocation money to Charlotte FC to acquire the free agent’s discovery rights. “Marco Reus is a world-class player who has excelled at the highest level of the sport, including playing in two Champions League finals for Borussia Dortmund and in the FIFA World Cup with the German national team,” Galaxy general manager Will Kuntz said in a statement.
“For Marco ... to join the Galaxy after playing his entire career in Germany is a testament to the project we are continuing to build at the club. We look forward to Marco’s contributions to the LA Galaxy as we enter the critical final stretch of the 2024 MLS season and beyond.”
Reus accumulated 239 goals and 163 assists in 628 professional matches in Germany since 2006. He spent the last dozen years at Dortmund after rising to prominence at Borussia Monchengladbach. The three-time Bundesliga Player of the Year (2011-12, 2013-14 and 2018-19) capped his run at Dortmund with a runner-up showing in the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League.
