MINGORA: A policeman, who had sustained serious injuries in an attack by suspected militants on Sumbat Police Post in Swat on the Independence Day, embraced martyrdom at a hospital on Thursday.
Constable Mushtaq Ahmad had sustained critical injuries in a gunfire between the suspected militants and the police manning the Sumbat Police Post in Matta tehsil.
He was admitted to the Matta Tehsil Headquarters Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Later, his funeral prayer was offered at the Javed Iqbal Shaheed Police Lines in Swat.
Regional Police Officer Muhammad Ali Khan, District Police Officer Zahidullah Khan and other officers and jawans attended the funeral prayer.
The body was later taken to his native village in Matta and laid to rest with state honours.
It may be mentioned that militants had attacked two check-posts in the Swat district.
In the first attack, the unidentified assailants had opened fire on the Tiligram Police Post. The cops deputed there returned the fire that forced the attackers to flee. The policemen remained safe in the attack.
The second attack was reported in Matta tehsil of the district where gunmen had attacked a police post in the Sumbat area in which Mushtaq Ahmad had sustained serious injuries.
