LONDON: Lord Qurban Hussain recently completed a parliamentary visit to Azerbaijan, during which he focused on monitoring the parliamentary elections held on September 1.
Following the visit, he stated he observed the elections and also visited the towns of Susa and Fuzuli in the Karabakh region, which were liberated from Armenia in 2020 after over 30 years of occupation.
Throughout his visit, he said, he observed the devastating impact of the conflict, with the region still heavily contaminated with landmines. “The area, spanning hundreds of square miles, remains littered with landmines that could take decades to clear.”Lord Hussain stated that on the polling day people of that region seemed happy to join the democratic process.
