Resume trade

Thursday, Sep 05, 2024

This letter refers to the news report ‘India’s FM says ‘era of uninterrupted dialogue with Pakistan over’ (August 31, 2024). That being said, he also said India will react to any positive or negative development, a typical diplomatic by-the-book statement. So, when Pakistan is officially inviting India for the SCO meeting, will he take it as positive development or not? This is a development which warrants India’s response or reaction and if India declines this invitation, it will reiterate the view that the present Indian regime will reject any olive branch.

I think both countries should initiate bilateral trade and facilitate each other. Leaders on both sides should think of the ordinary people who can benefit from such relations. Continuous animosity will only add to the hardships of people and businesses on both sides of the border. There are many examples of countries that are at odds with each other on the political front but still continue to trade with each other. These are two different strata of international relations.
