ISLAMABAD: Civil AJudge Shaista Khan Kundi Wednesday issued non-bailable arrest warrant for KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur after rejecting his request for exemption from personal appearance on medical grounds.

The judge directed the Bhara Kahu police station to arrest Gandapur and present him in the court on Thursday (today).

The warrant came in connection with the recovery of weapons and liquor from Gandapur’s car outside the residence of the-then PTI Chairman Imran Khan as he came to attend the party’s planned lockdown of the capital in 2016. Gandapur came in a motorcade along with 300-plus PTI workers. When they reached Banigala, the police told them they were violating Section 144 before directing them to disperse.

When the PTI supporters accompanying Gandapur refused to disperse, the police began arresting them. Meantime, Gandapur got out of his car and ran into the nearby jungle. The police said they found a man sitting in Gandapur’s SUV (APL-16) holding a teargas gun. The man was identified as Allah Nawaz, a resident of DI Khan, Gandapur’s hometown.

During the search of the car, the police recovered a sealed bottle of high-end whisky, a bulletproof vest, two submachine guns, ammunition, and two number plates (YH-115).

The police claim that the weapons were unlicensed, while the PTI leader claims these weapons belonging to his security guards were licensed. He claimed that the whisky bottle contained honey. Gandapur had earlier sought an exemption from appearance in the court due to a leg injury.

Meanwhile, criticizing Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur over the law & order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Wednesday said the provincial government was unable to improve the security situation. Talking to the media here on the sidelines of The News Education Expo 24, he said the chief minister had no idea how to improve the worsening law and order.

Without mentioning Ali Amin Gandapur, he said that the one who was claiming two-thirds majority was afraid of going to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly. The governor said the provincial government was wasting resources of the province by holding the meeting of provincial cabinet in Islamabad. He said that now PTI leaders were looking to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl head Maulana Fazlur Rahman to come to their rescue. The governor said the government had allocated only Rs3 billion for the universities in KP. Some 26 universities in KP were functioning without vice-chancellors.

He said the PTI government was now selling the land of universities. However, as long as he was holding the position of governor, he would not allow anyone to sell the land acquired for universities. “Where are those who had claimed that they would turn Governor’s House and Chief Minister’s House into universities?” he asked.

The governor said that he would not sit on the summary for the appointment of advisers and special assistants. However, he questioned why ministers and advisers were being changed. He said that if they were corrupt, why weren’t they punished?

About the PTI’s claims that the standard of education had improved in KP, he said a bill should be introduced in the assembly to make it compulsory for politicians and bureaucrats to enroll their children in government-run schools.
