Polio in Gaza

Wednesday, Sep 11, 2024

The recent confirmation of a 10-month-old baby in Gaza paralyzed by polio, the region's first such case in 25 years, is a stark reminder of the deepening humanitarian crisis in the occupied territories of Palestine. The polio outbreak highlights just one of the many ‘indirect deaths’ caused by this war.

While we focus on ceasefires and political negotiations, the international community must also urgently address the ongoing humanitarian crisis. This war cannot be allowed to continue without intervention. The world must prioritize saving lives. Polio’s resurgence is just a symptom of the broader catastrophe Gaza faces, and unless decisive global action is taken, the toll will continue to rise unchecked.
