A suspected robber and a passerby were killed during an exchange of fire between police officials and suspects in the SITE Super Highway Industrial Area police jurisdiction on Tuesday.
The encounter took place near Al-Noor Society on the Super Highway, where a suspect was killed while his alleged accomplice fled under the cover of fire.
A passerby named Syed Kashif was also killed by “the firing of the suspects”, according to the police. They also claimed to have found a weapon, a mobile phone and cash on the deceased, and impounded the stolen motorbike he had been riding.
DSP Sohail Faiz said the robbers, who were on the motorbike, were looting a delivery man at gunpoint when police officials patrolling nearby arrived on the scene.
He said the police tried to stop the suspects, but the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers. In retaliatory fire, one of the suspects was killed but his accomplice escaped despite being wounded.
Kashif, the passerby, was also wounded, and was taken to the hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival. Moreover, the identity of the deceased robber is yet to be ascertained.
