The last rains in Karachi have caused significant damage to the city's roads, leading to major disruptions. Several roads are heavily damaged with large potholes, cracks and overflowing sewage. Such damaged roads have an adverse impact on the daily lives of the city’s residents. I believe that the road construction quality in Karachi requires a comprehensive approach including the use of high-quality material and third-party monitoring and testing to ensure compliance with standards and to prevent the use of substandard material.
It is important to conduct frequent on-site inspections during construction by qualified engineers and independent auditors to ensure that work is done according to the specifications. The contractors should be held responsible for the quality and durability of their work by performance-based contracts where payment is tied to the road's condition over time.
