Down the drain

Friday, Sep 13, 2024

According to some reports, the Islamabad police have spent over Rs80 million to contain a PTI gathering in Sangjani. This large public expenditure comes at a time when the finance ministry is all set to reduce administrative expenditures to minimize the burden on the taxpayers. There was no need to spend such an exorbitant amount when an NOC had already been issued to the PTI for its rally, subject to numerous conditions. It would have been sufficient for the police to have remained vigilant around the venue and monitor the situation. Had this been done, undue expenditure of millions of rupees on deploying containers at every nook and corner could have been avoided. The citizens get the impression that the local administration did not truly apply their minds to adopt a less expensive strategy that could still help maintain law and order.
