ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has summoned former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on September 16, in connection with a new Toshakhana case.
Sources say that a three-member joint investigation team (JIT) is spearheading the probe and has requested Imran Khan’s presence. The JIT has received all relevant documents from the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and was briefed extensively on the case. FIA officials will visit the Adiala Jail if Imran fails to appear before them. The case has gained momentum since an Islamabad accountability court transferred it to the FIA on September 9. This shift came after recent amendments to NAB laws, which limit the bureau’s jurisdiction over cases involving amounts less than Rs 500 million. The case, involving both Imran and Bushra Bibi, had been transferred to the special judge Central, following a written order by Judge Muhammad Ali Warraich. The judge had noted that under the new NAB rules, the value of the property in question fell below the accountability court’s threshold, prompting the case transfer to the FIA.
