LAHORE: The Commissioner, Lahore Division, Friday said some 12 traffic-check camps will be established to eradicate traffic congestion in the city.
Chairing a weekly meeting of the coordination committee for traffic flow, the commissioner said that the camp hours will be fixed.
The commissioner said that 16 traffic congestion/ choking points were identified after the joint consultation of different departments in Lahore.
The traffic police, Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) and TEPA identified 89 points and 31 were analysed and it was decided to set up camps at 12 points in the first phase.
Traffic-check camps are planned in areas of Data Darbar to Urdu Bazaar, Sabzi Mandi, Ramgarh, Lal Pul, Gulistan Chowk, McLeod Road, Kashmiri Gate, Batraf Masti Gate, Delhi Darwaza, Niazi Adda, Chongi Amarsadhu and Chowbarji Chowk.
The commissioner said that the air quality would be regularly analysed with the elimination of traffic chocking.
He said that following the directives of the Punjab chief minister, practical steps were being taken to smoothen the traffic flow in the city.
Additional Commissioner Abdul Salam Arif, Deputy Commissioner Musa Raza, City Traffic Officer (CTO) Lahore Amara Athar and officers of other relevant departments also attended the meeting.
