The Sindh Excise Department on Wednesday announced starting an online auction for premium vehicle number plates as part of a fundraising initiative. Excise Minister Sharjeel Memon said the auction would offer number plates in platinum, gold and silver categories.
During a meeting of the excise, taxation & narcotics control department that he chaired, Memon said that the aim of the auction is to raise funds for the construction of houses for the victims of floods in the province.
He announced that a special online portal would be introduced so that people can bid for number plates in the three categories within a specified time frame. He said that a portal would also be introduced for reselling premium number plates.
He also said that a major fundraising event has been planned to take place in Karachi on October 12, adding that the event would feature bidding on premium and personalised number plates, with all the proceeds to be allocated to the flood victims’ housing project.
The meeting also decided taking strict action against the officers and the employees found negligent in their duties related to combating drugs. Memon said that additional manpower from the police department and other resources would be mobilised against narcotics.
The goal of expediting these operations is to launch a coordinated and aggressive campaign against drug trafficking networks, aiming for long-term success in combating narcotics, he added.
