LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has said that social media platforms are making profit in Pakistan but they remain unaccountable to any authority.
She stressed that these platforms should be shut down if they cannot be regulated, adding that, unlike Pakistan, social media is regulated globally. Speaking to reporters during her appearance at the Lahore High Court on Monday, she said, “Despite my two to three months of efforts, I have yet to receive any relief. FIA officials complain that they cannot question social media platforms, which highlights the current state of affairs in Pakistan, where everyone operates without accountability.”
She further alleged that the KPK House has become a haven for terrorists, where crimes are committed without fear, directly challenging the writ of the state.
“It is unacceptable to defame individuals without any form of accountability,” she added. Azma Bokhari also criticised PTI’s propaganda operations, saying that they are run from abroad. She expressed her frustration over the spread of fake videos and the challenges in removing false content from social media platforms. “I am here seeking justice. Discussing these fake videos is both distressing and painful for me,” she concluded.
