A police official was shot dead in the Mauripur area over a property dispute on Saturday. Police arrested the suspect in an injured condition after an alleged encounter.
The 33-year-old policeman, Mohsin, son of Nazir, was shot dead near the Grex Pump in the Mauripur area. His body was shifted to the Civil Hospital, Karachi.
According to police, the deceased man was an official stationed at the Garden Headquarters. He was on his way to duty when, just a few steps away from his home, a suspect named Amanullah opened fire and killed him before fleeing the scene.
A police team on patrol near Gulbai was informed about the suspect’s escape, and they attempted to stop him. However, Amanullah fired at the police while trying to flee. As the police returned fire, the suspect was injured and arrested.
Police seized a car and a 9mm pistol used by the suspect.
Citing initial investigations, police said the murder took place due to a property dispute between the deceased and the suspect. Both had previously filed cases against each other.
The deceased man was the son of a retired police inspector, Chaudhry Nazir, and his brother is also a police official stationed at the SITE A police station.
After completing formalities, the police handed over the body to the family. Further investigations are under way.
