LAHORE:Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider has said Pakistan wants to enhance bilateral relations with Australia in education, livestock, agriculture, science and technology.
Australian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Neil Hawkins, met with the governor at Governor’s House here on Monday. In the meeting, issues related to climate change, education, agriculture, dairy sector and promotion of bilateral relations in the field of sports were discussed. Speaking on the occasion, Governor Saleem Haider said that Pakistan attaches great importance to bilateral relations with Australia. He said Pakistan wants to collaborate with Australia to develop agriculture sector on modern lines. He said Pakistan wants to enhance bilateral relations with Australia in education, livestock, agriculture, science and technology. He said a large number of Pakistani students are studying in Australian universities. The governor appreciated the Australian government's initiative of giving scholarships to Pakistani students.
He said that climate change is a big problem. He underscored the need that Australia and Pakistan should work together to deal with it. He said he appreciated Australia's support for the promotion of cricket and hockey. He said the hockey team will be invited to the Governor's House after October 10. He said the Australian High Commissioner will also be invited on this occasion.
Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins said that work is being done on projects in the field of agriculture and farming in Punjab. Neil Hawkins said that there is a need to expand the trade sector between Pakistan and Australia. Meanwhile, the governor in a statement on the occasion of Palestine Solidarity Day said the nation stands with their Palestinian brothers and sisters against Israeli aggression. He said the brutality of the Israeli forces against the oppressed Palestinians is a violation of international laws.
The governor said that the martyrdom of Palestinians due to the Israeli bombardment was heart wrenching. He emphasised that the international community should stand with the Palestinians and play its role to stop the Israeli aggression.
