ISLAMABAD: The government is expected to bring the constitutional amendments after the upcoming summit of the heads of government of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states.
Sources hinted that separate sessions of the National Assembly and Senate would be convened after the summit.
According to the sources, in the meeting of top political leadership — President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, PMLN President Nawaz Sharif and JUIF chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman — which was held at the President House prior of all-parties conference on Monday, the political situation in the country came under discussion with focus on constitutional amendments.
The sources said it was expected that in the ongoing week, a government delegation would hold talks with Maulana Fazl and both sides would share their drafts for the constitutional amendments to create a consensus.
The sources said the JUIF draft is 80 percent complete while the PPP had almost finalised its draft. The PPP, prior to sharing its draft with the JUIF, would discuss it with PMLN.
