ISLAMABAD: Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry Thursday said it is very difficult to amend the constitution without the will (support) of Maulana Fazlur Rahman.
While talking to the media outside the Islamabad High Court, he said that the government not pushing for the constitutional amendment means that their numbers are not complete.
They (rulers) tried earlier and the numbers could not be completed for the proposed amendment. He pointed out that still 5 senators and 7 MNAs are required (for a two-thirds majority), so people are being forced. “If they had enough numbers, they would have brought the amendment tomorrow. But still, they are trying,” he maintained.
He claimed that it was because of this that the Speaker National Assembly has again written a letter to the Election Commission for allotment of the reserved seats.
Fawad Chaudhry said that if Bilawal Bhutto or Nawaz Sharif were so democratic, then they would not have the problems that they are facing.
He accused Bilawal Bhutto Zardari of slaughtering every principle for which his mother and maternal grandfather sacrificed. He said the Pakistan People’s Party has been in power for 17 years in Sindh.
Fawad claimed that the Attorney General had given legal advice that PML-N and the People’s Party could not get the reserved seats after the Supreme Court decision.
Separately, the sister of Imran Khan, Noreen Khan, said that the founder of PTI is imprisoned in jail and is not being allowed to meet anyone.
Noreen Khan expressed concerns to the media outside the Islamabad High Court, saying, “We are worried about what is happening to him. He has sacrificed so much for this country, and it was never expected that we would be treated like this.” “The founder of PTI has been put in jail as if he is a criminal,” she regretted.
