KARACHI: Three Pakistani sisters made waves at the Hungary Open Junior Squash Championship, with two capturing titles in their respective age groups and the third finishing as a runner-up.
Mehwish Ali, competing in the Under-17 division, dominated her group, winning both matches to secure the title. Her standout performance came in the second game when she decisively defeated top-seeded Tamara Pescarescu of Hungary, 11-5, 11-2, 11-2. Earlier in the tournament, Mehwish had outclassed Hungary’s second-seed, Brigitta Kovacs, reaffirming her supremacy.
This is Mehwish’s second consecutive junior title, a testament to her rising profile on the international squash stage. In the Under-13 category, Mahnoor Ali followed her sister’s lead, clinching the title in commanding fashion. Mahnoor swept past Hungary’s top seed, Krisztina Kun, 11-1, 11-1, 11-0. With powerful strokes and relentless pressure, Mahnoor left her opponent without a foothold, securing a swift victory and adding to the family’s impressive triumphs. Their third sister, Sehrish Ali, narrowly missed out on a title in the Under-15 category. She finished second after an intense final against France’s Cassy Lincou, losing 18-20, 6-11, 3-11. Despite her valiant effort, Sahrish could not overcome Lincou’s tenacity.
