ISLAMABAD/RAWALPINDI: Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Barrister Gohar Ali Khan said on Tuesday that two doctors conducted a medical checkup of the PTI founder in Adiala Jail.
In a statement, he mentioned that an ENT specialist and a medical doctor were among those who performed Imran Khan’s medical examination at 4pm on Tuesday.
“We have been informed that the PTI founder is healthy; he exercised for an hour today. We will receive his medical reports soon, which will be shared,” he said.
He explained that a two-member team of doctors from PIMS (Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences) conducted the examination. Gohar expressed gratitude to the workers who, he said, were concerned about the health of their party leader.
Gohar also shared Imran’s medical report on X, which says, “…Mr. Imran Ahmed Niazi was examined in the Central Jail (Adyala Jail), Rawalpindi on 15.10.2024 at 16:30 hours. He was found to be active. He was afebrile (not having fever) normal blood pressure, pulse & Spo2 96% at room air. His complaint was dyspepsia for the last 5 days for which he was already on PPIs (proton pump inhibiters to control acidity),” says Imran’s medical report, shared by Gohar on his X account.
The report notes, “he (Imran) has tinnitus (ringing in ears) for last few months for which he is already taking medications and there is no fresh complaints regarding his ears. He is otherwise fit & healthy and does not need any further medication at the moment.”
This development is expected to quell the reports and speculations regarding the health of the PTI supremo, which had been expressed by the party leadership. Following assurances from the government that his medical check-up would take place on October 15, the PTI political committee decided to postpone the protest at D-Chowk.
However, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar described the assurance as a false threat. The government had previously banned visitors to Adiala Jail due to the SCO conference being held in the capital.
Meanwhile, Jemima Goldsmith, the ex-wife of Imran Khan, has levelled serious allegations against the authorities in a message on her social media account. She wrote, “We have received reports that the authorities have now turned off the lights and electricity in his cell, and he is no longer allowed to leave his cell at any time.”
She said that “the jail cook has been sent on leave. He is now completely isolated in solitary confinement, literally in the dark, with no contact with the outside world. His lawyers are concerned about his safety and well-being.”
Earlier, the Adiala Jail authorities did not allow Dr. Asim Hussain, the personal physician of Imran Khan, to enter the jail premises.
Dr. Asim Hussain, the personal physician of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, arrived at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, seeking to meet the former prime minister and conduct a medical examination, but was denied entry.
According to sources within Adiala Jail, Dr. Hussain intended to examine the PTI leader, but permission to enter the jail was not granted.
PTI officials said that Dr. Hussain, who is also the CEO of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, waited outside the jail premises for clearance to meet Imran Khan. The party had expressed concern about the PTI leader’s health and demanded that a medical examination be conducted.
Complications arose when Dr. Hussain arrived at Adiala Jail. He was unable to present valid identification to the jail staff, and the security personnel sought a card from Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, which he did not have.
Following this issue, Dr. Hussain left the jail premises without notifying the staff. He had come specifically to conduct a medical examination of Imran Khan.
Separately, Noreen Niazi, the sister of Imran Khan, has said that she does not believe the reports from PIMS or the doctors.
In an interview with a private TV channel, she claimed that PIMS Hospital has issued false reports in the past and that no one will trust the findings. “I have had no contact with Barrister Gohar, and if there were no issues, why was Dr. Asim’s meeting not allowed all day today?
The health of the PTI founder is a matter of concern. If PIMS doctors can visit him, why not Dr. Asim?” she questioned.
Noreen Niazi also mentioned that multiple cases have been filed against her siblings and expressed that it feels like there is martial law in the jail.
“We are concerned about the health of the PTI founder. Barrister Gohar should have insisted on Dr. Asim’s meeting. Not allowing a personal physician’s appointment is troubling,” she contended.
She concluded by saying that they will not let this matter rest and that the family plans to protest outside the jail.
Meanwhile, Federal Minister and senior PMLN leader Khawja Asif wrote in a post on ‘X’ “Alhamdolillah, Gohar saheb We earnestly hope this will put your anxiety to rest. GOD bless you too.”
