The surge in anti-Muslim rhetoric is palpable across Europe. According to a report by the EU Agency for Fundamental Rights, 47 per cent of Muslims in 13 EU countries face significant discrimination in all aspects of life. The report strongly suggests that anti-Muslim sentiment is once again spreading across Europe. This has not emerged out of nowhere. Various factors have contributed to Western prejudice against Muslims.
The Israel war on Gaza has significantly affected public opinion in Europe, fuelling anti-Muslim campaigns and slogans. This situation is reminiscent of the period nearly two and a half decades ago when the events of 9/11 ignited widespread anti-Muslim sentiment globally. It is time for the Muslim world to awaken from its profound slumber and move beyond a reliance on Western support.
