ISLAMABAD: The government has nominated PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari from the National Assembly and Senator Irfan Siddiqui from the Senate as members of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) as per the newly enacted 26th Constitutional Amendment.
While from the opposition, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan and Opposition Leader in the Senate Shibli Faraz have been nominated as members of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.
According to sources, the names of government and opposition will be sent to Speaker National Assembly and it is expected that a notification of the appointment of members from both the houses of parliament will be issued today (Thursday).
As per Article 175A that was added after the 26th Constitutional Amendment, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, to be headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan, will also consist of two senators and two Members of the National Assembly. They would include one senator each from the government and opposition benches and one MNA each from both sides.
Meanwhile, PPP has also proposed name of Farooq Naik for the Judicial Commission since, according to PPP sources, the attorney general and law minister are already representing the PMLN government in the Judicial Commission in view of the government’s promise of equal representation in the Judicial Commission.
Sources said PPP wants the Judicial Commission to include two PTI, two PPP and two government (PMLN) members, including the law minister and the attorney general, with equal representation.
