Bad roads

Friday, Nov 01, 2024

The deteriorating condition of Karachi's roads has become an ongoing nuisance and a significant safety hazard for commuters. In numerous neighbourhoods, streets are flooded with sewage, and uneven, broken road surfaces are a common sight. Potholes on major thoroughfares like Shahrah-e-Faisal, University Road, and I I Chundrigar Road are causing frequent accidents. In one tragic incident, a motorcyclist recently lost his life after hitting a pothole at night.

The poor state of the roads not only poses a public safety risk but also leads to financial losses for motorists, as their vehicles sustain damage from these deep craters. Additionally, these conditions make commuting particularly difficult during emergencies, as broken roads prolong travel times and add unnecessary risk. It is imperative for the city administration to prioritise road repairs and maintenance to prevent further accidents and ensure a smoother flow of traffic. The people of Karachi, as the residents of Pakistan’s commercial hub, deserve better infrastructure and safer roads.
