Ruined hills

Wednesday, Nov 06, 2024

The Margalla Hills, a striking chain of lush green hills encircling Islamabad, are vanishing at an alarming rate. Once revered for their beauty and biodiversity, these hills are now subjected to relentless stone-crushing operations, stripping away their rich natural cover and reducing them to barren, scarred landscapes. Along the GT Road near Taxila, the hills have become a battleground where excavators and crushers systematically tear apart the terrain, leaving behind a dirty, lifeless expanse. Anyone driving through this once-scenic route is now greeted by scenes of unrestrained exploitation, where the beauty of these hills is overshadowed by the constant hum of machinery and clouds of dust.
