In many academic institutions today, the PhD has regrettably transformed into a mere credential rather than a genuine qualification for research. The prevailing mindset suggests that once individuals earn their PhDs, their focus shifts to disseminating knowledge through simplified ideas tailored for students. Such practices suppress the intellectual growth of both educators and students. Students are often left without the tools to think critically or to question the status quo, essential skills in today's rapidly evolving world.
The fixation on quantity over quality in academic publishing fosters a culture where the depth of research is sacrificed for meeting publication quotas. To counter this trend, institutions must foster an environment encouraging rigorous, meaningful research. This includes prioritising original thought and interdisciplinary collaboration.
