For most students, internships are intended to be a first stepping stone, a place to learn and gain practical skills. However, when organisations demand prior experience even for internships, it leaves young people in a frustrating loop: where can they gain experience if entry-level roles are inaccessible? Fresh graduates, eager to learn and contribute, are discouraged by these impractical demands. If they have to gather experience for an internship, they might as well seek a full-time job with a better salary. It is essential that organisations rethink these restrictive internship policies. Rather than creating hurdles, companies should focus on fostering potential, offering mentorship, and providing students with the opportunity to develop skills within their internships.
