This letter refers to the news report ‘Pakistan vows not to play India if the team refuses to visit for Champions Trophy 2025 (November 10, 2024). It is time Pakistan takes a stand in the face of the unnecessary animosity India has been creating on the sports front. There is no need to refuse to play in Pakistan when the Indian foreign minister travelled to Pakistan to attend the SCO only a month ago.
This approach does not make sense and it is only complicating the already sour relations between Pakistan and India. If security is a concern, one can point to the recent matches against England in Pakistan, which took place without any problems. India should revisit its decision for the sake of moving towards regional peace, with cricket having always played an important role in building trust between the two countries.
