Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 US presidential election has raised concerns for those of us watching the worsening humanitarian crisis in Palestine. Trump’s previous policies, such as moving the US embassy to Jerusalem and solidifying ties with Israel, signaled an approach that many view as one-sided and failing to address the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. This approach has been a source of immense frustration for Palestinians, who have felt increasingly marginalised in peace discussions.
With Trump’s return to office, it is imperative that this administration rethink its stance on the Palestinian issue. The US has traditionally been seen as a mediator in the region, yet that role has waned in recent years. If America wants to promote true peace and stability, a more balanced policy that considers the rights and needs of Palestinians is essential.
