ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Mian Muhammad Rauf Atta has praised constitution of a seven-member constitutional bench, headed by Justice Aminuddin Khan, in a meeting of Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), as necessitated under the 26th Constitutional Amendment.

In a statement issued here on Monday, he extended his warm congratulations to Justice Yahya Afridi, chief justice of Pakistan (CJP), who’s also chairman of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP), and to all commission members.

He expressed confidence in the competence and integrity of all members of the newly-formed constitutional bench, affirming their capability to address pivotal constitutional matters. The SCBA president hoped the bench would quickly commence its work so as to reduce substantial backlog of constitutional cases, which is currently affecting the efficiency of the Supreme Court in fulfilling its primary task of swift and effective dispensation of justice to the public at large.

Similarly, he also welcomed the recent initiatives taken by the chief justice of Pakistan aimed at facilitating problems related to case management, particularly for lawyers and litigants. He acknowledged the steps such as issuance of a monthly cause list, fixation of early and urgent hearing applications, and addressing overall case pendency.
