LAHORE: The Advocate General (AG) Punjab has said smoke-emitting vehicles will not be allowed on roads now. He made the statement during the hearing of a petition seeking the court’s orders for the eradication of smog which was heard by Justice Shahid Karim of LHC on Tuesday.
Justice Shahid Karim remarked this was a big case. The government should have been here. The government has done nothing so far and I am identifying it daily. The government will have to move beyond simply producing policy papers. He further remarked there is a need to form long-term policies. This way things will not work. He remarked that the transport sector is the major cause of environmental pollution. The smuggled fuel is used in the transport sector which has a very low quality, he said. Justice Shahid Karim remarked Beijing shifted its entire industry to other localities to address its environmental pollution. Justice Shahid Karim remarked he will hear the case again on Friday. This government, he said has taken better steps than the previous governments. The smog will continue by the end of January. —Online
