LUTON: British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott has emphasised the diaspora’s pivotal role in strengthening UK-Pakistan relations and fostering socio-economic development.
During her visit to Jamia Islamia Ghousia Trust in Luton on Wednesday, the High Commissioner expressed her desire to connect with the British Pakistani community and discuss important issues affecting them, including cultural integration, education, and opportunities for collaboration between the UK and Pakistan.
Imam Qazi Abdul Aziz Chishti MBE, a prominent interfaith dialogue and social cohesion advocate, organised the event. Since her appointment in 2023, Marriott has concentrated on fortifying the UK-Pakistan partnership, particularly in trade and developmental sectors. Her designation as OBE reflects her substantial contributions to international diplomacy and community engagement.
Imam Chishti has been instrumental in positioning the Jamia Islamia Ghousia Trust as a centre for education and community involvement, offering programmes designed to empower local populations and promote interfaith respect.
The gathering featured a dynamic dialogue where attendees expressed concerns and constructive suggestions to the ambassador. The High Commissioner and Imam Chishti reaffirmed their commitment to working collaboratively to address the needs of the community and strengthen the bonds between the UK and Pakistan.
