QUETTA: Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the Chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and the leader of the opposition alliance ‘Tehreek Tahaffuz-e-Aeen Pakistan,’ strongly condemned the operation against PTI’s protest in Islamabad.
Speaking at press conference at the Quetta Press Club, he alleged the government is hiding the facts about the number of killed and injured activists, and urged the human rights organizations to take notice. He called for an independent investigation into the what he called the excessive use of state power and the accountability of those responsible.
Achakzai further emphasized that the cases against Imran Khan are politically motivated, and therefore, he and all other political prisoners should be immediately released.
Achakzai further noted that a young child had been abducted from Quetta two weeks ago, but law enforcement agencies have failed to recover him yet. He questioned how is it possible that these agencies have no clue to the criminals?’ He criticized government for mobilising all of its power against political protests, adding it failed to take any substantial action against violence in Rahda Sham, Duki, and Kurram, where dozens of innocent civilians are being killed.
Achakzai also criticized the 26th Constitutional Amendment and the role of PPP and JUI-F, stating that the constitutional framework everyone had agreed upon was now being distorted.
He stressed that in order to bring the country out of its multifaceted crisis, democratic and constitutional supremacy, as well as parliamentary sovereignty, must be the foremost priority.
