PARACHINAR: The troubled Kurram tribal district is facing a shortage of essential items and medicines as clashes continued on Thursday, raising the death toll to 110 and putting the injured tally at 147.
According to police and hospital sources, the sporadic clashes have persisted for eight consecutive days. This claimed another eight lives and left nine people injured, prompting calls for immediate steps for peace.
As many as 52 people lost their lives when a convoy of vehicles destined for Parachinar was attacked in the Manduri Ochat area in the Lower Kurram on the 21st of this month.
This stirred trouble in several areas, such as Sangeena, Sadda, Balishkhel, Khar Kiley, Maqbal, Kanj Alizai, Bagan and Alizai, which have been witnessing firing incidents since then.
The main Peshawar-Parachinar Road has been closed for one week. This has suspended traffic and trade with Afghanistan through the Kharlachi border point. Internet and cell phone services have been disrupted as well, multiplying problems for the people.
